On the topic of whiskies - i had a cigar the other day with a wonderful crescendo of them, a trio of single malts provided to me by Sir Euan himself - a Caol Ila 12yo, Lagavulin 16yo, and Ardbeg Supernova (extreme peat). It was a wonderful experience.
Anyway all this to say that in terms of scottish single malts I found this table which is quite handy in terms of classification...
just tasted a few whiskies c/o my in laws generosity and texted notes to Euan so thought i'd share them here: - Glenkinchie 12y.o.: light crisp honeyed and slightly floral. Hint of peat. Delicate edge cuts the palate, very easy drinking. - Dalwhinnie 15: still light but sharper, less aroma, richer caramel sweetness, definite sherry, bigger body, more alcohol bite. Lingers on the palate. - Singleton of Dufftown: pronounced caramel sherry nose, but sweetness has more rounded apple pie flavour, pastry, maple syrup, large kick at the backend, hearty. - Talisker: Finally some peat. Yum. Nuff said.
