Trinidad Reyes

The most luxurious (and one of the most expensive) of the small cuban cigars. Always perfectly constructed, with flavours of well matured and high quality tobacco, with an excellent smoothness and lots of creamy vanilla notes. Produces clouds of thick, white smoke. Delightful!

30-45mn smoke. Drink match: good hot chocolate, coffee, port.
Size: "Reyes" - Length: 4 1/4" Ring Gauge: 39 (110mm x 15.87mm)

Brand info: These cigars have been recognised by connoisseurs all over the world, but not easily obtained as, since 1969, they were produced in a 38 ring guage exclusively for Fidel Castro as diplomatic presents. In 1998 they were launched upon the world market. They are named for the beautiful cuban city of Trinidad. Superior and stylish cigars of medium strength, well rounded, rich and tasty. Smooth cinnamon spice flavours tantalise the palate with hints of chocolate and roasted coffee intermingled with cedar aromas.

  1. This cigar was tried and tasted by Greg and Sam on Saturday 30th August in the year of our Lord two thousand and nine.
The dominant impressions of this cigar are as follows:
    -A dry woody taste
-A lingering fruity aftertaste (post-draw). The fruit in question would belong to the category of darker, red fruits- ie. rasberry/ cranberry (Rubus idaeus)
-Soft taste (not harsh on the mouth or throat); great draw and yet well-packed (ie- ash stays on)
-Excellent with coffee. Finish it off with one of Joannes Chocolate Squares.
-Other noteworthy hints: cellar/ vanilla/ leather
    Rating: 7.5

  2. Good work - how do i get mum's choc squares to go with my trinidad?

Funny thing about these is that i've smoked a few when young (like the ones you've got) and they're all creamy smoke, fruity etc and then a year or so later they were more biscuity nutty on top of the original flavours. So more complex and enjoyable i suppose. I feel a post about ageing cigars coming on...

  3. I just found one of these Reyes sitting in my humidor, i think from this Nov'08 box... fantastic. The miracle of age. Still quite a creamy smoke, but oh so much more richness and complexity. It started out with cedar on a background of leather and tinges of cinnamon, and then the cinnamon grows with a vanilla sweetness, and a hint of cabernet style grape and the faintest touch of raspberry. And this biscuity thing i was alluding to in the original post as the flavour that arrives only after a few years of age... it is here in full glory... hallelujah. Biscuit - i'm thinking good uk mcvities digestive - with vanilla caramel (brown sugar?) cinnamon spice, touch of cocoa and cafe creme, i'm in heaven. probably the best small cigar i've had in a while. If you've got one of these that's been hanging around in the humi for a while, chances are it's from the same box, smoke it now, after a light meal... and join me in heaven. Best small cigar i've had in quite some time. As usual with these cubans, i wish i had an identical box that i'd set aside for ageing...

  5. Andrew has one in Vanuatu in a plastic box. It's gone all mouldy. Maybe he can save it with a hair dryer or something?...
